Issue S

How to clearly finalize, document and communicate covenant expectations about camping on vacant lots.” [Problem Statement #15 in the survey].

The current covenants prohibit trailers and all temporary structures, such as tents, except as provided in Section 5.5 during construction. By 21 to 18 membership surveys slightly favored leaving this unchanged. (Pro-change members score= .86). But no comments described what that should entail.

This proposal would amend the Covenants to clarify that use of camping tents and trailers is permitted for temporary use by non-paying guests and family members consistent with single-family occupation of a lot that has a completed residence.  However, camping on vacant lots would remain prohibited. The proposed new language is found in the Draft Covenant Proposals, Article VII at section 7.5 (on the Saddlehorn Blog).

  1. I agree with Liz also. I understand the concern that opening up to camping raises. However, this could be addressed by clear established limits such as no more than 5 days in succession and 10 days total per calendar year.

  2. I agree with Liz and Robert. I am in favor of allowing a property owner or their guests to camp, for a limited period (suggesting up to 14 days total per lot per calendar year), whether or not a residence has been constructed on the lot.
