“How to manage propane tank installations.” [Problem Statement #5 in surveys]

The covenants presently require all propane tanks to be buriedBy 21 to 16, the membership surveys favored leaving this requirement unchanged. (Pro-change members score=.76). However, comments suggested that simple screening would satisfy appearance concerns at less expense, and the option for integrating tanks into the residence, in section 5.4.5.1, is probably illegal.

This proposal would amend the Covenants to allow approved screening of above-ground tanks. The proposed language is in the Draft Covenant Proposals, Article V at section 5.4.5 (on the Saddlehorn Blog).

  1. I believe that the 1st choice should be burial of newly-installed propane tanks. Compliance with screening requests for existing above-ground tanks has be marginal. One large tank that had been installed in the last few years has now been buried (thank you!) – it if had been screened it would have been an eyesore (IMO)

  2. For clarification, ever since 1984 the covenants HAVE ALWAYS required tanks to either be enclosed inside the home, or buried. Above ground outdoor tanks have ALWAYS been a covenant violation. So, unless this provision passes, ALL above-ground tanks will need to be buried. There is no grand-fathering. I think it would be unfair to require new home construction to obey a rule that many existing home owners have never obeyed.
